After 10 long years since her Spring Summer 2008 debut, Melbourne designer Helen O’Connor last night showcased her upcoming Resort ’18 collection at MBFWA Carriageworks, Gallery II to a packed house of 350 guests.

The new Resort ‘18 collection was motivated by Peter Weir’s film ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’. Taking inspiration from her childhood roots of Mount Macedon, Helen was both haunted and intrigued by the story, making this collection very close to her heart.

The runway showcased 42 of her strongest looks to top tier fashion industry guests. All that attended enjoyed an Aperol Spritz on arrival to align with the Resort theme. The configuration was designed to enable for six rows of front row seating giving all invited a clear view of the ornate and intricate craftsmanship detailing of each Thurley style. The venue and lighting was minimally styled to focus on the standout clothing. It was really import to Helen to show the collection intimately to ensure all who attended could appreciate the designer’s hand work up close and personal.

In typical Thurley fashion, the Resort ’18 styles play on the fascination of sculpting the body creating and emphasising strong silhouettes down the runway. The collection also highlights the waist, accentuating this area with the use of exaggerated shoulders, sleeves and corsetry. Hand work is a key focus within the collection, featuring hand crochet lacework, handcrafted embellishments adapted into trims and high necklines.
