  • Q
Describe your career path to date?
    A
A long and wild and crazy ride that has lasted for more than half my life... I started in this business straight out of high school which means I have been in this world for heck... a LONG time.
  • Q
What do you love about your job?
    A
I am constantly learning which I adore. I get to meet inspiring, amazing, hilarious, clever, wonderful folk every single day - can't complain. Plus, the women (and men) I work alongside are tremendous individuals.
  • Q
    And what's not so great?
    A
It's not the world's best paid profession. Otherwise, nothing.
  • Q
    Describe your typical day?
    A
Well, I've just moved into the digital space so it's changed a lot. I hop online very early in the day and check out what's happening, particularly on social media. And then I set to reporting on it. I might duck out for an interview or showing or three throughout the day too.
  • Q
What is the best experience you've had in your career?
    A
Wow. So very many I'm not sure I can answer that. Working for Helen McCabe at the Weekly was definitely a highlight. Working for her again now - well, I'm excited.
  • Q
What do great PR people do?
    A
Same as great everybody does - listen, adapt, work with folk in the way that suits them. Be patient, persistent and polite.
  • Q
    What do bad PRs do...
    A
    The reverse of the above.
  • Q
How do like to be contacted and when?
    A
Whenever suits you but over email. And if you're concerned I didn't receive the email I'm happy for a follow up but leave it a week. Please.
  • Q
How has social media altered your job since the days when you started out?
    A
It hasn't altered my job per se. It has altered the environment in which I work. There are more people working within the industry and I don't know them all anymore! Some are very professional. Some ... er. They're not.
Also, I used to interview/write/shoot for the publication I worked on and that was it. Now we do everything across all mediums.
  • Q
Do you enjoy attending industry events, and if so - which are your fave kind?
    A
I love seeing the people in my industry - a lot of them are dear friends. When I'm busy it's tricky to fit them in. I am single parent of two... Anything outside of school hours is tough.
  • Q
The media landscape is going through a period of dramatic change - where do you see it in 5 years?
    A
I feel, suspect, hope that we will see a swing back to quality writing by well-trained and talented journalists and writers rather than just beautiful images with a caption.
  • Q
If you weren't a journalist, what would you be?
    A
    Very, very sad.
