  • Company NOVA Entertainment
  • Position Newsreader

  • Q
How long have you been in your current role?
    A
I've been with the company for 2 and a half years but my current role as National news manager? 1 month
  • Q
How did you get into Radio?
    A
I actually fell into it after spending time in Television. I ended up covering a weekend news reading shift on a local radio station then just stayed.
  • Q
    Describe a typical day:
    A
I balance reading and writing news while managing a nationwide network of newsreaders as well as air checks. I like to keep on top of our talent as well as our competitors. I have to say though, we do have some of the best in the business.
  • Q
What has been the most exciting experience on the job?
    A
It's a cliche but everyday is a good day. I simply love what I do. Specifically though? Anytime we get to cover a major event. That's when we as journalists come into our own.
  • Q
What's the downside of your job?
    A
Look it's never great when you have to tell someone that they're not up to scratch but on the flip side of that, I have grown professionally out of any feedback that could be deemed negative.
  • Q
Have you dealt with many PRs directly during your career, and if so what has your experience been like?
    A
Yes I deal with them all the time. I would have to say, send an email about an event as close to that event as possible. Don't call and ask us about an email you sent last week. We simply won't remember it.
  • Q
What are you looking for on your show - what sort of pitch would get an immediate response?
    A
For us it is the news factor. Statistics, particularly local ones, will get the most traction.
  • Q
Do you attend many media events?
    A
I attend pretty much everything, and I'm not a ashamed to say it. This industry is about getting out there and meeting people, something I pretty much enjoy doing.
  • Q
Do invitations come directly to you, through the network or through your agent - and which do you prefer?
    A
I'm happy for invitations to come directly to me. If it's anything that I believe requires the network's attention then of course it will be forwarded.
  • Q
Where do you see your industry in 5 years?
    A
Still going strong. It's an ever shifting media climate but the personal connection that radio offers is something that people are still strongly attached to.
  • Q
If you weren't on radio, what would you be?
    A
On reality television. I have a sick addiction to any Real Housewives.
